FEED WATER TANK

The feed water tank is the major meeting place for cold make-up water and condensate return. At the feed water tank the feed water for the steam boiler is prepared. The feed water tank provides a reserve of water to cover the interruption of make-up water supply. Traditional practice is to have a feed tank with sufficient capacity to allow one hour of steaming at maximum boiler evaporation.

• By preheating the feed water too high temperature differences (Thermal shock) in the boiler will be avoided and the gases O2 and CO2 which are contained in the water are largely reduced.
• The dosing chemicals are brought to their full efficiency
• Secure a reserving time in the case of an interruption of make-up water supply.

Feed water tank materials Carbon steel-Probably the most common construction materials for feed water tanks. Uncoated, it is a relatively low cost materials but susceptible to corrosion. This weakness can be improved by applying suitable coatings to the surface. Stainless steel-The enhanced life of a properly made feed tank in this material will justify the higher initial cost. Type 304L is generally selected as the most appropriate grade of stainless steel.
